Homeopathic Remedies for Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic condition for which homeopathic remedies can provide a measure of relief. The elbows and knees and the area behind the ears are often affected by this condition, which is characterized by dry, flaking skin. The pain of psoriasis is usually not great, but if the following remedies do not bring relief within a month’s time, individuals should consult a qualified homeopathic practitioner.

Arsenicum album 30c: In cases where the affected area is noticeably hot and sufferers generally feel rather chilly, this remedy may provide relief. Scratching will tend to increase the heat and burning sensations. This remedy is ideal for long-standing, chronic cases with people who tend to be very tidy, orderly, and fussy. Arsenicum album 30c can be taken once a day for three days, then once weekly for three weeks.

Graphites 6c: This remedy will help people with psoriasis in cases where the affected areas tend to crack and secrete a sticky, yellow fluid. These cracks itch intensely and often affect the areas behind the ears. The hands, especially the palms, may also be affected. The skin will be generally unhealthy, with a tendency for all wounds to become infected. Graphites 6c can be taken three times a day for up to three weeks, then reduced as the condition improves.

Sulphur 6c: This remedy suits people who are generally warm-blooded and whose symptoms are aggravated by extremes of temperature and by contact with water. The affected areas will itch and burn and will also be aggravated by the heat of the bed. This is often the best remedy to try if no better match can be found, as it can start the healing process. Sulphur 6c can be taken three times daily for up to three weeks, then reduced as symptoms improve.

Petroleum 6c: People needing this remedy will have a worsening of their symptoms during the colder winter months. Besides the usual flaking skin, the fingertips will often split and bleed. Petroleum 6c can be taken three times daily for two to three days, then once daily until improvement is noted.
